What the technical terms mean to you
CGI Server routines providing a variety of features such as forms, guestbooks, and counters
Domain name The friendly name you type into your browser window in order to visit a website (see also Secondary and Tertiary Domains) -- eg, amcinet.com
FTP Capability to directly access server directories -- user name and password required on PairNET servers.
InterNIC The agency that registers secondary domain names on various primary domain servers (initial fee is $70 for first two years and thereafter annual renewal is $35)
IP The four-part number separated by periods that the Internet computers use to identify servers, websites and e-mail accounts -- eg, 209.81.156.173
IP-less domain See Tertiary Domains below
ODBC Database and search capability from the website
POP3 e-mail Dedicated or unique e-mail accounts. These accounts may be accessed from any e-mail program. Each account may also have aliases (alternative names)
Primary domain The primary name servers such as .com, .net, .org, etc.
Secondary domain The unique name in front of the .com, .net, .org, etc. These names are registered through InterNIC and have a unique IP assigned to them.
Tertiary domain A unique name preceding the secondary domain name. These accounts are not registered through InterNIC and do not have an associated unique IP -- they are IP-less domains
